Abstract

Seventy percent of students fail to get sufficient sleep, and most of these students have no idea what the effects of sleep deprivation have on their minds. Sleep deprivation is an epidemic that has impacted the education of students. The attention span and ability to take in information and recall it all decreases with sleep deprivation. To mitigate this issue and to improve the education of students, people need to understand the true dangers of sleep deprivation and how to avoid its grasp.

Five Questions

  1. Why do you need sleep?

  2. Why people should not pull all-nighters?

  3. What methods lead to a proper night of sleep?

  4. How does sleep deprivation affect memory?

  5. What does evaluating sleep habits and outcomes look like?

Hello! My name is Allister Costello. I am currently a senior at Wakefield and I will be attending the University of Tennessee in August to study mechanical engineering. Throughout high school I have gained an appreciation for sleep, and this appreciation has made me realize how little sleep I was getting because of school. So I wanted to know what my lack of sleep was doing to my brain and how it affects my ability to learn. I hope that my thesis will help people better understand our need for sleep, and help reduce sleep deprivation.
